How to Compare Perpetual Futures Funding
A practical walkthrough using the measurements and controls available in Scalpy.
1. Check sign and settlement
Open Funding, identify the exchange contract and read the rate sign and next payment time. Positive funding generally means longs pay shorts, but the exchange specification is the authority.
2. Compare intervals, not just numbers
A displayed 0.02% per interval cannot be fairly compared with another rate until the interval and settlement rules are known. Forecast rates can change before settlement.
3. Separate funding from total outcome
For example, 0.02% on a $10,000 eligible notional is $2 for one interval before fees and other effects, if that rate and notional apply at settlement. Price movement and liquidation exposure can exceed the payment.
